What's New this School Year
Faith Center will be offering online classes this coming school year. In order to complete online classes, students will need access to a computer and an internet connection. Students will log onto the Faith Center Learning Management System (LMS) in order to complete class work. Students will be provided access to the Faith Center LMS prior to the start of classes. Students should have the ability to print documents and assignments.
Faith Center has also implemented a new Health and Wellness Policy and Building Usage Plan that will apply for each location when students are in the building.
Asynchronous learning is a term used to describe forms of education, instruction, and learning that do not occur in the same place or at the same time. The term is most commonly applied to forms of online learning in which students learn from instruction—such as prerecorded video lessons or game-based learning tasks that students complete on their own. Asynchronous learning also encompasses a wide variety of instructional interactions, including email exchanges between teachers, online discussion boards, group projects and assignments. Faith Center will use a Learning Management System to organize instructional materials and correspondence. Faith Center classes will be scheduled through out the week on a regular schedule.
Online classes will be offered via full year and semester options. Students may register for full year classes via the membership class lists, as an extra class (above the three in the membership), and as a single registration.
Students may register for semester classes as single classes.
Art 1 – Mr Stevens
Students study various visual arts concepts, compiling a portfolio throughout the 15 week semester. Topics covered include pen and ink techniques (quill pens and ink, line drawing, brush and ink, and ink wash), color theory (watercolor applications), and figure drawing (classical proportions of the adult head and figure, body language and facial expressions). Student artwork will be showcased at various Faith Center events and performances.
Art 2 – Mr. Stevens
Open to students who have successfully completed Art 1 and have demonstrated the proficiency requirements to advance to Art 2. Students study various visual arts concepts, compiling a portfolio throughout the 15 week semester. Topics covered include drawing in perspective/mixed media (drawing organic and inorganic forms in one-, two-, and three-point perspective), ink and advanced color theory (zip-a-tone, stipple paper, pebble-grain paper, collage, and print making), and human figure (indentify names and locations of various bones and muscle groups and understand how they affect outward appearance, posture, and movement in drawings). Student artwork will be showcased at various Faith Center events and performances.
Studio Art Creative Creations – Miss Nevill
Join us in making creative creations! This class aims to inspire our young artists to use their imagination when making art. Together we will play with a variety of media to make wacky and fun pieces of art sure to make anyone smile. During these projects students will be encouraged to listen to other’s ideas, play with various types of media and refine their fine motor skills. Media used may include some of the following depending: Colored pencil, acrylic painting, collage, water color, crayon, graphite pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel and mixed media.
Watercolor Illustration – Miss Nevil
Diving into the life and style of Beatrix Potter, you will learn the traditional and whimsical method of watercolor through illustration. In this course, you will gain various brush techniques as well as knowledge in mixing and harmonizing colors and learning about paper absorption. You will develop softer drawing skills with pencil and ink, applying these skills in creating beautiful landscapes and charming characters. We will be using watercolor in a loose simplistic way through many exercises, which will expand your painting skills
The Art of Storyboarding – Miss Nevil
Learn what it takes to be an amazing story artist! You will gain skills in the mechanics of good story layout; such as camera angles, framing perspective, drawing/pen technique and character design. Going off your very own short story Script, and creating each scene to your Final Storyboards!
Electronic Music – Mr Pomante
Open to students ages 13 and up with at least three years of experience playing an instrument and/or have successfully completed Music Theory I. Class encompasses a detailed study of the various aspects of electronic music composition, focusing on writing and recording utilizing MIDI applications, sampling, and music notation software. Student work will be featured in the spring.
Digital Design 1 – Mr DeBeus
In Digital Design I, students will explore Adobe’s Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design. Students will explore the basic concepts of Photoshop including an introduction to the tools, creating layers, and layer blending. Students will create a mood board – an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept. Next, students will learn the basics of Adobe Illustrators’ tools and functions and will use Illustrator to create new projects. Finally, students will discover the functions of Adobe’s In Design, learn how to use the tools, import content, and incorporate pictures and words. Students will learn how to combine elements from photoshop and illustrator with In Design to create more robust projects. Student required materials for this course include a sketch pad, pencils, and a thumb drive.
Digital Design 2 – Mr DeBeus
The prerequisite for this course is Digital Design I. In this course, students will build on the concepts previously learned in Digital Design I and will continue with a focus on applying new skills to real world situations and projects. Projects will include logo design, brochure production, development of Faith Center publications, and others. Student required materials for this course include a sketch pad, pencils, and a thumb drive.

Music Theory is a 15 week semester offered to students aged 13 and up. Students will gain an understanding of basic music theory including but not limited to: major and minor scales, the circle of fifths, sight singing, rhythmic dictation, and elementary harmony. Students are expected to create a portfolio of their work, which will be used to assess student progress. At the completion of the two year Music Theory program, students must write an original melody and harmonize it for four-part choir with correct four-part writing rules. Music Theory is part of the DEED program. Students may choose to receive three college credits upon completion. The credits are issued through Pillar College. Students will be given the opportunity to register for the credits at the beginning of the second semester. Cost for the credits $400.

Global Music – Mr Briggs
This course provides an introductory survey of traditions and transformations of music in a global perspective, exploring music both as a phenomenon of sound and a phenomenon of culture. The focus of the course is not traditional music per se, but is rather musics of tradition, with tradition understood as a process of transformation whose most remarkable feature is the continuity it nurtures and sustains. Within this framework, we will explore everything from folk and classical genres to contemporary styles of world beat, jazz, popular, and experimental music. Global Music is part of the DEED program. Students may choose to receive three college credits upon completion. The credits are issued through Pillar College. Students will be given the opportunity to register for the credits at the beginning of the second semester. Cost for the credits $400.
Photography 1 – Mr Wills
Photography I will introduce the fundamentals of photography. After understanding how the camera works, students will learn to use a camera, create a well-composed photograph, and communicate ideas through images. Students will also research and learn from influential photographers from throughout history. Upon completing this course, students will have created a unified series of images that could potentially be shown in a gallery setting.
Photography 2- Mr Wills
Photography II will push students beyond the basics of photography. After reviewing the key concepts from Photography I, students will explore the styles of influential photographers from the past two centuries. By exploring these various styles and the concepts behind the work of these photographers, students will begin to pinpoint their own unique styles. Students completing the course will create a unified series of photographs.Requirements: Students will be creating photographs outside of class throughout the academic year. Although camera phones are acceptable for this course, all students are strongly encouraged to use a camera with control over shutter speed and aperture. For those looking to purchase a camera, equipment will be discussed during the first two class sessions. Photography 2 is part of the DEED program. Students may choose to receive three college credits upon completion. The credits are issued through Pillar College. Students will be given the opportunity to register for the credits at the beginning of the second semester. Cost for the credits $400.Photography.
Group Piano 1 – Mrs Boyer
Piano Lab 1 is designed for beginner musicians ages 11 and up with no prior experience. Students will develop the ability to read music in both clefs, learn musical terminology, note values, and apply their learning to the piano. Through the Alfred Premiere series, students will continue their education in piano on a skill-based evaluation. If the class fills, new sections will be made available.
Developing the artist as teacher
This class is designed for the student who is interested in teaching( private lessons to younger students). Students will learn how to choose curriculum, design lesson plans, and develop teaching techniques and strategies. They will learn what it is to teach to an objective with measurable outcomes for student assessment at different age levels and abilities and will be given the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned, in the Faith Center setting. Students must be 15 years of age and have had at least 4 years of participation in Faith Center for the Arts, or a recommendation from one of their Faith Center teachers. This is part of Faith Centers newly established mentoring program.
Students will meet with the teacher via a virtual platform such as Zoom.

Online Group lessons are open to students who wish to fulfill their instrumental lesson requirement online. Students will be placed in a teachable group that will be scheduled at the convenience of the students and the teacher. Students are to participate in their appropriate band at their designated location. Lesson teachers will determine and register students for their appropriate band placement.
